FootballStar 12-10-2002, 05:23 PM My highest BP ever was 180/100. I'm 18 yrs. old, by the way.
cjsinger 12-10-2002, 10:41 PM hi im 18 also and my blood pressure was 205/85 its been 134-200 for the systolic. football dude talk to me ne time since I can relate to you ok bye
simtusie 12-11-2002, 11:21 AM My highest bp reading was last month- I was in to see the doc for a tremor and my bp was 160/130. Way far out of whack. needless to say, she put me on another med. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif I thought I had been doing better. oh well.
MyOMy 12-11-2002, 12:22 PM Highest was 190/112. I am currently taking Prozac to see if that will bring it down. I have been taking the Prozac since August. The last reading was 144/80,so it seems to be working. The Dr. was pleased.
simtusie 12-11-2002, 12:32 PM Myohmy! Prozac for hbp?! Please be careful on prozac. It has a huge number of side effects. I was on it for a year and at first it did me a lot of good, then all hell broke loose. Have someone close to you pay attention to your behavior and keep your doctor informed. I would have done fine had it been only a 6 month course of the drug. please be careful.
FootballStar 12-11-2002, 03:49 PM cjsinger, are you taking any medications right now? I was prescribed Toprol XL last week but ever since I began taking it, I wake up at night and just can't fall back asleep. I'm also experiencing loss of apetite and some bloated stomach. As of today, I stopped taking it to see if the symptoms are really caused by the medication. My typical blood pressure is in the 140-150 area for the upper and in the 70 area for the lower number.
cjsinger 12-11-2002, 06:21 PM hey football dude ny doctor didnt want to put ]me on any meds at all bc of my age I think. i did tests though a year ago and they all came out normal. my blood pressure still remains pretty high for the systolic. .today it was 158/78 my first number is the high one no really the second. thanks for responding ok bye
MyOMy 12-11-2002, 08:30 PM Simtusie, I have been on Prozac before. I have never had any prior problems with it. The reason we are trying this first, is because I am a high strung person, and my Dr. feels that if Prozac will calm me down, it is worth trying before being put on blood pressure meds. My blood pressure has been considrably lower the last couple of months, so it may be working.

Yeah, same thing here. The first number is pretty high, yesterday it was 150, but the second one is normal, 75. My parents both have/had HBP and both were on Toprol at 50mg daily. Their BP went back to normal aftter a few weeks of usage and my dad is off the med now whle my mom isn't yet, although her BP is in the 110-125/70-80 range. Well, ttyl.
simtusie 12-12-2002, 11:28 AM Myohmy- sorry for hopping up on my little soap box like that. I guess just because of my experience I would hate to see anyone else go through it. I am glad it is working for you, but please keep a close eye on yourself and if things start to get a bit strange, please talk to your doc. I wish you the best!

MaasiesMess 12-16-2002, 08:13 PM Hey football dude...I took Toprol XL once...just two 5 mg. pills and my body went beserk....short of breath, wheezing, dizzy, light-headed, and it felt like a vice squeezing my chest...I will never take that again..now I am on Zestril 5mg...and do watch out for the Prozac...I took that 10 years ago and I never was a drinker...I found myself drinking more than I ever had in my whole life....I stopped the prozac and so did the wine habit...
kfuchsel 12-27-2002, 07:32 AM Will out meds I'm 155/95, with it's 128/72 range. I'm on dilitiazem xr 240MG works well for me bc I'm a runner. ACEs slowed me down, norvasc didn't work. I tried prozac-HATED IT-It kept me awake and withdrawal sucked. I'm taking 5MG Lexapro for anxiety-It's great, but it does cause a little forgetfulness.
