Hi
My blood preasure varies from 160/100 to 140/80 within few times a month. This complecation started when I was going through a bad period(mental worries) last year. Now my worries are over but preasure varies. I want to
know whether it is necessary for me to take medicens. i excercise regularly and very fit for my age.( I am 35 years.) All my other reports (sugar/ cholosterol remains normal). And my heart rate remains at 60 when I relax.
please write to me whether it is necessary to take medicnes at this stage.

Dush

I'm 18 and have been having hbp problems also. My doctor prescribed me Toprol XL but I'm not feeling well since I began taking it so I'm off of it at least for a few dats. In my opinion, you should go see a cardiologist and he'll let you know.

See a doctor (a Cardiologist is better)your lower is at the top range for "high normal", your high end is called "Stage 1" hypertension. Not anything to stress over be needs to be looked at. Usually anything over or near 160/110 is call the doctor today time. Good luck

Dush -
It sounds like you may have borderline hypertension. Certainly a diastolic of 100 is too high, but your diastolic isn't consistently high. Same thing with the systolic (top number)...160 is high, 140 isn't too bad (although still slightly high for someone your age).

My suggestion would be to continue to monitor it for a while, and discuss this with your doctor.

Most people don't take hypertension seriously enough. Over the long term, it can put you at increased risk for heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, etc. Hypertension affects every single organ in the body. On the other hand, I certainly don't think your is so high that you need to panic. Discuss it with your doctor, and get his/her advice re how to monitor and how often, and at what point he would recommend medication.
