View Full Version : MAV and AD Questions - Experienced Input Wanted

I have some questions that I want to see what others think on these topics. I've been having a few worse than normal days again. My bad days are about what my good days were three years ago so I would assume even though it doesn't feel like it, that is improvement. I'm just exhausted with this crap. I don't even know what the heck it is that is making me feel ill. I just feel sick all over. I dont' think it is really dizziness or even headaches. I think it is this damn noise in my head that does it to me.

Anyway, my appointment with my neurologist is coming up and I am making notes to discuss things with him. Here are my questions:

I'd be curious to know what MAVers take is on why if it is migraine, do some individuals continue to improve with time at a very gradual process without medications. In some cases is the medication just helping to get there quicker? This is something that continues to boogle my mind with this whole migraine theory. Also, it seems as if the majority of people that try these migraine preventatives have increased symtpoms for weeks and then can't hack it and stop the meds. Some move on to another med with no luck either. Is it not migraine for them that they are not having success with meds?

Now for the AD. If someone doesn't have a chemical imbalance, then what do the AD do? When someone acts negatively to an AD, is it because there is no chemical imbalance? I know that different AD increase different chemicals in the brain so the only way of knowing is keep trying them until you find one just doesn't seem worth the try in the long run. Also, why can I go for a couple weeks of not feeling down and then when my symptoms rear up, I feel so low; sometimes to the point that I wish a big hole in the Earth would open up and swallow me up and I wouldn't give a hoot. It seems to me it isn't depression but rather a reaction to not feeling well. Am I not seeing a bigger picture here? Withdraw from the klonopin was horrible, is that what these AD do to you when you try coming off them as well?

Thanks for your input; it is appreciated.

Gloria...I hope you don't mind me posting something...I am not an experienced mav'er...but I have been noticing things on my own. I have noticed that many that have taken an AD seem to get better faster? I am not sure if they had migraine or anxiety getting in the way...or both. All I know is that plenty have been as miserable for as long as we have and then get on an AD...and within a few months..they are posting that they are 100%? Anyone else notice this?

Gloria:

As you know my opinion the onything that helped me manage this condition was Zoloft.....

I defintely think their is a chemical imbalance going on as well. I never had bad anxiety or depression before this.

I am doing pretty well not 100% yet but in the 90's...most days...

I may need to tweak the doasge down the line but I am a big pro AD guy as well as mixing and matching anything you can....

you need to stick it out ..1st month to 2 can be rough but you eventually will turn the corner..

Charlotte:

Best of Luck ...You have a plan now..Stick to it and give thsi sometime..there are a ton of medications out their..relief is around the corner just a matter of finding the right mix
