Hello. I am a 27 year old male, 6ft. 220lbs. I never smoked, I eat fairly well, and exercise regularly (at least three times a week). I recently had a pre employment physical for a city police officer position and was very surprised to find out I had close to high BP. It was taken three times and each time it was lower. The final reading was 146/74. I am concerned they will not hire me for the job and for my overall health. Can they deny me employment for having close to High Blood Pressure?

Hello. I am a 33yr old Systems Programmer. I have been with Company 15 years. I consider my job very stressful...VERY stressful. I informed my employer of my high blood pressure and they seem to be fine with it, of course I think if I dropped dead at my desk they would just roll me aside and stick some punk kid at my laptop. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif I am on 5 different meds and my BP is still 150's/100's. I agree with the last person's comment your BP sounds fine to me, however I am not a Dr. but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't think with readings like you have that you will be denied employment based only on that. you were probably somewhat nervous and stressed, if that's as high as your Bp will go under stressful situations, and police work is stressful, then I would think they would hire you. If it is bothering you that much, see a Dr. ask what he thinks, if he thinks you are a little high then perhaps he could Rx you to bring it down, but I would kill for those #'s when I'm at rest without my meds (5).
