My mom has congestive heart failure and had an almost fatal bout with septicemia last week as a result of a urinary tract infection. Since the past week, her heart is back to atrial fibrillation, tending to have tachycardia. Her heart doctor is trying different dosages of Digoxin to regulate her heart along with other heart meds. He had also mentioned that if drug control doesn't work, he might consider cardioversion. My question is since she is 81.5 years old with an already weakened , afib heart, should she opt to undergo cardioversion if her heart rate cannot and afib cannot get back under control with heart meds.
