View Full Version : Breast swelling due to spironolactone and metformin interaction?

I began using metformin (I have Type 2 diabetes -- diagnosed 5 years ago) on Oct. 19, 2007. I have used spironolactone for years to combat excessive hair growth. I noticed about a month ago that my breasts had swelled (and are still swollen). I am wondering if it could be a result of a drug interaction between the spironolactone and metformin. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem using these two drugs together?

Spiro alone makes your breasts swell. I've been off it for two weeks and already notice a reduction in the size of and discomfort of my breasts. Have been taking metformin alone for about that time, so it's definitely not the metformin.

Breast swelling is a side effect of the spirolactone alone. If you don't like the side effects, then talk to your doctor about changing prescriptions.
