for quite some time now, about a week before my period is supposed to begin, i have been having alot of brown discharge, and its very clotty, and sometimes there is quite alot of it. i am 30 years old and have never had cramps quite like i have now. they are painful. i also have in the weeks between my periods, a constant ache in my lower abdomen, and chronic pain in my lower back. what could be going on?

Brown discharge is not unusual however the clotting part might be a little problem...If you have given birth in the recent past you might need a D&C. At any rate you should be checked out at your clinic or where ever you get health care.
