I am 15
I have just recently started my periods.
I can see a piece of skin, like a bridge, over the hole where my menstrual blood passes through (sex hole).
I believe it’s a hymen...When I pull out my tampon my hymen goes over it and I have to move it out of the way so can take out the tampon and so I am not pulling on my hymen-it hurts. I suppose it is quite a thick piece of skin acting as a bridge.
I have tried fingering myself to break it but it just hurts.
I don’t want to damage my body.
When I have sex maybe soon, will it rip and fall off?
When anything rips it doesn’t rip both ends, it rips at one end and dangle or even worse, not rip at all.
Help me? Will I have to have an operation to cut it ALL off?
I’m worried x
when I’m 16 I hope by then I would’ve spoken to my mum about it, but I will go to the nurse and talk to her.
PLEASE WRITE BACK X

Don't worry, this is quite common!

I had the same problem, only with my boyfriend and I having sex, we eventually broke it. You can get it surgically fixed, which is a quick procedure where your doctor will cut it.

Whatever you do, don't cut it on your own! I've heard of people doing that, and that can cause worse problems (infections etc)

You're completely normal!

I advice you to tell your mother & don't use tampons as it may cause bacterial infections........:angel:

I have the same thing. A lot of times, you don't even notice it. But sometimes you'll put your tampon in a different way, and when you go to take it out later, it'll catch on some extra skin. If you take your time and move the skin out of the way, then the tampon will come out. I'm guessing that's what you're talking about...

If you can get a tampon in, you should be fine when it comes time to have sex, so I wouldn't worry about "trying to break it yourself." When you have sex, just make sure it's with someone you can talk to. If they go slow, and go in on the right side, at the right direction, it won't hurt. After having sex a few times, you'll know what the "right direction" is and it won't make any difference. And he doesn't even have to know.

It's really not a big deal unless you're totally sealed up, which it sounds like you're not (since you're using tampons). I've been going to a doctor for my annual exams for about 5 years now, and they've actually never mentioned it, or said it was a concern at all, and typically just say that everything looks fine.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to "rip" and I really don't think it's going to "fall off". And I believe Diane is wrong in saying that using a tampon will cause bacterial infections. It isn't an open, gaping wound or anything...it's just more skin on one side of the vagina that some other women don't have.

So, if the tampons are working, and sometimes you just have to be careful about how you take them out, then I really think sex won't be a big deal, and I really don't think your mom or your doctor are going to think anything about it. If you want, just mention it to your doctor next time and they can clear up any confusion.

OKAY. I'm 16 and i had the same problem about a year ago. I couldn't even get tampons in, however, because it hurt so bad!! And my gynecologist said that with this problem, it could end up being dangerous because some blood gets backed up and just stays behind the obstructing hymen. I HAD TO GET SURGERY. that's the only way they could fix it so i could use tampons, and so it wouldn't be a health risk. i reccomend you tell you mom your problem, and ask her to take you to a gynecologist.
GOOD LUCK!! :jester:

p.s. don't be too worried if you have to get surgery, it's just minor and pain only lasts for about 2-3 days. not too bad.
