happy new year everyone! my hardware removal was in oct and i just came back from an 8 day vacation. it was not alot of walking, but the walking i did was painful. i was on a hot weather vacation and pretty much had to wear gym shoes most of the time. my fused toe foot hurt and both feet sweleed up so bad. i was quite upset because i wanted to wear sandals and dress shoes at nite. my big toe was fused, the 2nd toe had hammertoe correction. now my 3rd toe hurt for no reason at all. my other foot was in pain, also. i cant figure this out. does anyone have any ideas? i go to my dr jan 7 which is next monday. i really dont know what to do. i can get on most of winter shoes, but when i walk after about 10 minutes, i feel pain. i wish there were answers. i am so down right now. i just thought everything would be better after hardware removal. 1 bright side, shoes dont hurt on my big toe like they did with the hardware. i hope somebody responds. debbie

Hi debbie, I am sorry to hear yu are still feeling pain.

When I first started walking and I kind of put too much pressure on my foot, all my other toes were in a lot of pain, but this got better by the end of the week. I believe it was because all of the toes were so weak.

I am sorry I can't give you much advice, but it's quite normal to experience swelling, not too much though (Everyone is different). My foot still swells at eight weeks and I feel comfortable wearing sneakers or skate shoes. I did try wearing some normal flat comfortable shoes but I needed the extra space for the swelling. The hot weather doesn't help with the swelling at all. I cant walk comfortable for more than ten mins.

I can feel a little soreness under the ball of my foot, but its not too bothersome. As for my ankle, that's another story. I hope your Dr can help you because you shouldn't be in too much pain, I understand how upset and frustrated you feel.

Take care and good luck
:)

Debbie
I am also sorry you are having problems.
I just started walking after 12 weeks of being NWB and having my pins removed. I walk like a little old lady. Not to offend anyone. In the mornings, I have shooting pains in my foot but they eventually go away.
My feet swell some also and my doctor told me to continue to use the ace bandage to wrap my foot. Or, to put a shoe on that is snug to prevent the swelling. So yes, you will continue to have some swelling.
I had to go out and buy a new pair of sneakers, which was a size larger than I normally wear.
So it will take time and for the pain in your other toe, not sure what that is. What kind of pain are you experiencing?

i really cant describe the pain other than it cramps. my 2nd toe also cracks. i feel like i am not taking a step forward(nice pun). i wear compression socks sometimes, but the foot returns to its big size the next day. i am just afraid the dr will not have answers. this scares me so much.
