In the state of NY, it is better to be an NP, due to how the the licensing laws work. Both types of caregivers have to practice under the supervision of a physician, but a physician can have only 2 PAs, but the number of NPs one doctor can supervise is not limited. NPs also get more respect here. In some states, NPs do not need to be supervised at all.
