View Full Version : why is my nose always stuffed up ?

Ever since I can remember my nose has been stuffed up to some degree. I can usually only breathe out of one nostril. It does not run it just gets heavy and blocked. Blowing my nose seems to make it worse. My problem is definately chronic. I go through times of constantly using nasal spray for weeks to the point where I have to ween myself off of it. My problem is year round and at it's worst at night when I sleep. Things such as climbing stairs or jogging will clear me up temporarily for some reason. Even just standing up will help a little. Drinking milk will make it much worse but is not the primary cause. I am 33 years old and have dealt with this since childhood and wish there was some sort of relief besides the constant use of nasal spray. I have tried Alegra and Claritan with little results. Any ideas ?

It sounds like you may have a deviated septum - have you ever been to an ENT specialist to have it checked? By the way, the chronic use of nasal sprays can make it worse because of "rebound congestion" so they may be doing more harm than good.

i lived like that for 40 years, couldn't sleep, woke with dry bleeding lips etc.
than ENT specilist fixed D septum, some relief. got rid of food allergies and started nasal flush (neti pot) what a joy to do yoga and taste breath, free and fresh. "the breathing book" by donna farsi
good luck
