Hi there,
I've been breastfeeding my son for 13 months and I'm ready to start the weaning process. The problem is, I don't know what to feed him as a replacement to my milk. He still gets gas when he drinks cow's milk & yogurt, and he hates the taste of formula. He likes soy milk, but I'm concerned that it doesn't have enough fat to be his only source of milk. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I would try soy then, it has a good amount of protein, and what it may lack in calcium, you can make up in other ways. Just a little note, I weaned (he did actually) ds at 14 months, and he never drank milk, ever. He just likes yogart and cheese, so I never worried, and the doctor said the same. Really, don't worry, you did SO great nursing for 13 months!!!!!

Thanks Dizzygirl! I'll definitely stick with soy milk. I'll also keep introducing cheese and yogurt slowly and hope that his system adapts to the dairy.
And congrats for nursing your son 14 months! It's such a challenge when they are getting so big and squirmy. :)

Maybe try doing different kinds and brands of yogart. My friend once said something to me that made me forget about worrying if my son was getting anough nutrition since he wasn't getting any milk, she said that "Cows milk is for baby cows" and she was right, it's not the perfect combination for people, breastmillk is, so don't worry if he doesn't like it. And think about this, you never see any animal in the world, that nurses their young for 20 years, so if after a baby weans, it's not necessarily natural for them to drink milk for their lifetime.
My son is now 2 1/2, and couldn't be healthier, and to this day, never drank milk.;)

Hi there,
I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking the same thing about soy milk, in regards to my son. Although he is only 8 mo, I just found out I am pregnant, and I'm really starting to lose my milk supply, AND my little guy is allergic to dairy. So while I'll have to give him a soy formula for awhile still (after my supply is gone), I was worried about giving him soy milk (if he's not over this darn allergy). But it's nice to see that someone else is in relatively the same boat (with having to do soy)!
