View Full Version : Why one side!

All my LPR symptoms seem to be on the left side of my throat and my left ear. Occasionally my right ear will hurt but almost always I am affected on the left side. It even feels like the PND is going down the left side of my throat. How can this be?!

I can't explain to you why it happens, but it's the same way for me. My left sinus is irritated constantly and only my left ear feels full and makes strange noises when I lay down at night

Well, all of mine are on the right side. From the right side of my neck up to my sinus is where things seem to be stuck or thick or something. Like right now! I ate some english peas and it feels like one went up my nose. I hate this feeling. My ears have been popping so much that I can't concentrate. Going to swig some mylanta and see if that will help this feeling go away. Then I'll have to put up with D in the morn!

So funny you say this... All my symptoms are on my right side. Sorry but I have no answer for it either. All my symptoms make no sense.

Isn't that the million dollar question? Actually there are too many questions about this disorder that we don't seem to have any answers to! My problems are usually on the right ear and right side but I've had both ears burning and infected at the same time when my LPR is at it's worst! When my ear starts popping then I immediately change my diet down to apple sauce and low fat yogurt. I also take zantac even though I took Prevacid and this seems to work. I hope that we all can feel good again!!!!

If you sleep on a particular side it could be that the acid
is pooling on that side when you sleep. My left tonsil and
left base of tongue are swollen. I figured it was because
I slept on my left side and the damage happened in my sleep.

Does anybody know why the ear problem happens? I sleep on my back and my left ear is affected. Why? How does it become irritated and from what? Does the acid go all the way into the ear? Or is it the liquid from the tear ducts that gets into the ear & nose?

There is a connection between the throat and the ears. Because the throat is inflamed maybe it's referred pain. Have you ever heard of someone with low back pain and they have pain in the leg also? I don't know, just a guess. What does your ear pain feel like? Sometimes mine is a deep, dull ache and other times it burns. It also feels plugged. If I tilt my head to the side I can feel it draining. The ENT says that he sees nothing wrong with it so I figure it must be nerve pain.

I tend to agree with what Mark said. It may depend on the side we sleep on. I sleep on my right side and my problems are on the right side.

Packerbacker04,

I've always heard that for reflux problems you should try
to sleep on your left side. If you see a diagram of how the
esophagus connects to the stomach, you can see that the
stomach dumps right into your esophagus when you're laying
on your right side, but it doesn't when you lay on your left.
I'm pretty sure you'll get some lessening of your symptoms
if you switch to your left side. Do a web search for
GERD+sleeping+left+side.

You've described it. Except for the draining. Not enough liquid accumulated for the ear to drain. Maybe the feeling of it being plugged is only imagined. It sure feels real though. After I go to bed my eyes start watering and the nose & ears feel plugged. I can almost imagine the liquid leaking out of my ear. I don't think it does though.
