My grand daughter is 5 years old, recently during a routine urine test she came up positive for a UTI and was given anitbiotics, when talking to my grandaughter she told me that her urine leaks out with out her knowing it but just a little bit, when asking her for how long this has been happening her answer was "all my life" (keep in mind she is just 5 years old" any way I am sue that is an exageration but I have noticed that she goes hours and hours with out urinating, my daughter and I have always thought this kind of strange, even after sleeping all night, she doesnt have to go for hours after she gets up, and she drinks normaly. Anyway she went back for her check now they say not UTI, cause the antibiotics showed no change. They now says she has to get an apointment at the childrens hospital, what could be wrong? I am so worried

It might be a good idea to remind your GD to try and go more often even if she doesn't feel like she has to. When getting up in the morning she really should empty her bladder. Not going often enough often results in bladder infections and bladder irratation..Hopefully its nothing serious. But its always a good idea to check with a specialist to be sure..
I really would encourage her to try and go more often. It might be as simple as that. She probably leaks abit of urine because her bladder is full..

My 5 year old daughter is like that. She holds it really long time without going to the bathroom. I always have to make her go try even though she says she doesn't have to. She has to wipe really well after, otherwise she says she feels like there is still urine coming out. I have read that sometimes it can get pooled up in the vagina then leak out later. I'm sure this is what happens to my daughter, and this is the reason she holds it so long, because she doesn't like the feeling of it leaking out after. It does help her to take her time wiping.

If she is taking antibiotics, then you should give her some probiotics. Antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria in the body. You need good bacteria to stay healthy and keep a strong immune system. Taking a probiotic will promote the regrowth of those bacteria. I can buy them in a health store, or sometimes they are added to yogurt. I drink some in a thick yogurt shake I find at the grocery. It will be labeled in the front saying it has probiotics.
