First off..have you had your BP checked more than once? if so and it has been that high all times than I would suggest you go out and get a professional BP cuff and take your own throughout the day for at least 2 weeks before jumping on the med ban wagon. You may not have high BP..if it is high when you are doing it at home then go to the doctor and have him or her start you on the first trial of meds..you will be lucky if the first one works for you..good luck and keep posting, Lisa

Hi-
I agree with Moxie... (she's a real pro at all this!) ...You may not have high BP at all, and perhaps had a "highish" reading because you were nervous at the doctor's office. This anxiety is called "white coat hypertension" and is often not a true reading of what your pressure normally is.

No meds should be prescribed based on one or two readings. One should only be diagnosed with hypertension if high BP numbers are sustained OVER TIME. But your #s are truly not alarming yet.. In fact your systolic (upper #) is normal! And your diastolic (lower) #, could have elevated temporarily just from sheer nervousness. So buy a cuff and track your own pressure once a day at the same time every day for a few weeks.

Best of luck.
And come back here with any further questions. We are all experts by now!!! (and when we finish with you, you will be too!) LOL.
