Hi,
I've been on atacand (candesartan) for about 1 month and I've noticed a dry cough for the past 3 weeks. I'll see my MD next week. I didn't think a dry cough normally occured with angiotension 2's. I'll be checking with my doc, in the mentime, I was wondering if anybody else had this and attributed it to the med. ( I did have a cough from the straight ACE inhibitors.)
Thanks!

Update: My doc switched me then to norvasc...developed swollen ankles, so now I am on diovan. It can be a real challenge to find a med that has tolerable side effects. My search continues for more natural, healthy means to control BP.
Best wishes to all.

Hey Sunny!
I went through Beta Blockers which produced intolerable fatigue, then Ace Inhibitors which produced "The Cough", then diuretics which trashed my electrolytes, and ended up on straight Diovan 160mg with no side effects.
I hope the Diovan treats you kindly...it has me!

Thanks dear Zuzu,
I hope you'll stay in touch. I am not frequently on this board; I am also dealing with neuropathy, which I think is due to the years of the beta blocker. ( every body reacts differently to these meds) I spend much of my time on the peripheral neuropathy board which is hosted by a large hospital in Boston.
My focus is to find nutrional ways to lower my BP and hopefully require less meds. I've been taking fish oil capsules and I am researching a form of useable magnesium. Good luck to you and thanks for your warm response.

Keep us informed on how you are making out with Diovan as i'm just starting this after coming off Atacand , worked for quite awhile then recently bp has been up for some reason so i'm taking diovan hct , 80 mg . Had upset stomach last night after eating don't know if this is a side effect yet , i'll give it more time before making a judgement .

Good luck to you. Alot of this is trial and error, isn't it? And each one of us is unique in what works. I am currently using a low carb diet and taking off a few pounds that I picked up over recent years.
Best wishes,
Sunny

Hi Sunny-
I'LL say it's trial and error. Who'd have thunk it? I remember when I had my very first elevated BP reading (borderline) after years and years of 120/80. I was having a routine gyne exam...The doc said, Hmmmm, let's keep an eye on this.
Which we did for a while. And I remember being in such denial and very anxious about it and, when he referred me to a good GP to follow up properly, he said, "hey, it's not so bad,...so you'll take one li'l ol' pill every day, that's all there is to it".
I WISH.
Never in my wildest dreams did I realize until I found this forum how troublesome these meds can be, but it sure was comforting to know that I wasn't ALONE.

GOOD LUCK ON TAKING OFF THE WEIGHT.
STAY IN TOUCH!

Vipergg-

Greeting to everyone,

I just had an appt. with my cardiologist and my Bp is lowered. I am on straight Diovan now, he discontinued any Hydrochlorthiazide since my BP was 114/80...unbelievable. I have also adjusted my nutrition. I am not considered overweight, but I lost between 8-10 pounds by sticking to a low carb diet, eliminating potatoes, bread, white rice, pasta (ugh!),etc. The weight loss makes it easier for me to be physicallt active.
My encouragement and best wishes go out to all of you as you experiment with different means to get the right match just for you. It can be very frustrating when our docs do not quickly move us to a new regime that complements our personal make-up. Listen to your body and then get your doc to listen to you. You may have to select a new doc, if the current one is not there for you....I did, several times.
Have a great week!
Sunny
