My family doctor sent me to see cardiologist. He said my blood results have worsened. So I took stress test. He said that my stress test was abnormal --> suggesting diminished blood supply to 2 areas of the heart. He said that his feeling is that this is probably an anamoly and that angiogram will be normal. However the rist of not confirming this finding is that I may have a heart attack unless we fix the blocked arteries (that is if they are present). I was telling him that i've been taking multivitamins, fish oil, POM Wonderful etc. His response was "Vitamins do nto really have that much effect..." arrghhh! He wanted me to do angiogram but I have a mixed feelings. I think IM gonna try pantethine for 3 months and see if it works for me. Hopefully, I don't need stupido stents in my blocked arteries that can be scary! I dont know what to do...:confused::o

How is your diet, exercise levels, weight etc., are you taking a statin or other prescribed cholesterol lowering medication?

I do exercise every day 30 minutes.I weigh 144 and am 43 years old. I m male. No I am not taking any RX at all. not even statin. I am trying to stay away from statin and other rx for cholesterol because of the side effects such as liver, or kidney problems. I mean why ruin it if I knew there are side effects...;)

High triglycerides, low HDL... appears to be numbers suited for niacin. Did you get a lipoprotein test, or a regular lipid profile? If the latter, ask for a lipoprotein test.

As for your doctor stating that vitamins not having much of an effect, that is generally true if he meant something like a multi-vitamin or antioxidants. Niacin is a well tested vitamin used for controlling cholesterol problems. Fish oil has many studies behind it too. Panthetine... eh, the studies aren't overly impressive, to be honest.

You can try dietary changes (low carbohydrate, low wheat), along with 3 or so grams daily of omega 3, and maybe ask your doctor about niacin (or Niaspan, the prescription version). They also have a prescription fish oil, but unless your copay is cheap, over the counter is a better option.

As for an angiogram, CT scan, calcium scoring, or other cardiac testing, I personally feel it's best to listen to a doctor, over any comments on an internet board. Just do your research and speak to your doctor, and it's up to you to decide. Since your stress test was abnormal, some follow-up testing is definitely warranted.
