OK, the Hyzaar is not working as well for me anymore.
Can you tell me if you are experiencing any fatigue or weight related issues with Diovan? I have my next follow up appointment in a couple of week and I'm thinking of asking the doctor if I can try this.
Most meds make be tired and I have had so much trouble losing weight since I was put on them. I'm hoping Diovan HCT may be different.
Thanks!

Hi Tamsin- Too bad the Hyzaar isn't doing it anymore...but join the club! I've been through beta blockers, ACEs and diuretics with horrendous side effects all, although with each I DID get good BP control.
Now I'm on straight Diovan. (no HCTZ diuretic in it). 160mg.
LOVE it. No side effects whatsoever. Perfect BP numbers.
Had some palpitations for about 8 weeks when I first started it but they have long disappeared so I don't know if it was my body finally adjusting to a side effect of the med or just a co-incidence.
No fatigue. No 'nuthin'"!
You'll no doubt hear from Moxie shortly.....She takes Diovan HCT.

P.S. Sunbird Owner and RRR are Benicar fans...maybe they'll give you their imput on this newest and latest addition to the ARB (angiotensin2 receptor blocker) family of drugs.

Hi Tamsen,
I have weight problems with all of them including Diovan..It is very hard to lose weight now that I have been on all meds..I hate it and I workout like a maniac and eat right too. The diovan is the best for me so far as far as side effects..Lisa

Thanks, guys!
Zuzu: Interesting thing about the palps. I have suffered from PVCs for ages but ever since I started taking magnesium they have become infrequent. That said, I would not welcome that problem again as I tend to get freaked out. Hmmm... I guess I can always try.
Moxie: Hang in. I work out (not quite as much as you) but I know how you feel about the struggle. The worst part for me is having my doctor berate me for not losing *more* weight! I don't know what part of the equation he doesn't understand!
Anyway, thanks again and good luck to all!

Tamsin-
I think the PVCs I experienced upon beginning Diovan were a co-incidence, and not drug related, since I also had a "spate" of them a few years ago, (also lasting for about 7-8 weeks), WAY before Diovan and BP problems .. I was just going through a tremendously anxious time.
So, hopefully, if you try Diovan, you won't experience any more palps, especially since you take magnesium.
Let us know what happens....and don't forget that Benicar is another option. The ARBs in general seem to have the least adverse reactions and if one doesn't work, another may. I've said this in other posts, and my doctor confirms this, that sometimes, even within the same class of drugs, a couple of molecules make all the difference!
Keep us posted.

Tamsen,
any docotor who berates his or her patient is a quack if you ask me..that is terrible..My doctor is a sweetie I love him..the last time i went in complaining about my weight and my high bp..he said to me "look at you you're gorgeous stop worrying you're the picture of health".My DH didn't like him saying that but it made me feel good..We have each other guys to get through all this..Love, Lisa

Lisa,
Thanks so much for the words of encouragement!
To think I waited almost 6 months to see this doctor, who is supposed to be the best in the area, only to be told that I shouldn't let things "get out of hand" for being 15 pounds overweight. And at the time by BP was 110/70 (some kind of miracle that day). Does he not think I want to lose the weight? Here's the thing-the guy must be 120 pounds soaking wet! I personally don't think that looks good on a man, but I restrained myself from commenting.
Anyway, I'll see him again soon and I already know my BP will be high because he bugs me so much, but it may be time to try to a new drug anyway. And perhaps a new doc.
I'll keep you posted!
Thanks again,
Tamsin

Tamsin,
You Go Girl..I mean that too..next time tell him to get some muscle before making comments about you. 15 lbs overweight is ridiculous for him to say anything about. How does he not know it's muscle rather than fat? The biggest thing is you are so right about your BP going up becuase of his attitude that does play a big role..Whenever I went to my doc the nurse would tell me on the scale and if I said no she insisted and got an attitude until I finally told my doctor that that causes my bp to go up when she acts like that. I also told him until you get a scale in here that measures body fat percentage and not just pounds I will not get on it..He agreed totally and told her to cool it..Lisa
