You mentioned in another post about Altace being a safe drug was a joke. My doctor prescribed it for me in January and I'm having some things going on that I don't know are attributable to the Altace or something else.

Did you have problems with this drug? And if so, can you describe? I'm really leary of this drug.

I am not Flamaest, but I have taken Altace for about a year now. I started on the 10 mg dosage, and changed to the lower 5 mg dosage--but not because of any side effects. I can not really identify side effects that ACE inhibitors have caused in me. With the exception of Ziac, every beta blocker has had some profound and undesirable effects (besides putting my heart rate down into the 30s, even on the lowest therapeutic doses).

More than once (on these boards) someone has mentioned decreased maximum exercise capability from ACE inhibitors. I can't really comment on that since I have been on them since 1995, many years before I reincorporated exercise back into my life.

Run away from Altace.. my god.. i had a boatload of side-effect: NO JOKE..

dizziness, constantly tired, lightheaded, ringing in the ears, numbness in the face-head, minor swollen calves and ankles, sexual decrease, and occasional chest pains.

Is the enough for you?

go to DIOVAN.. thank me later..

Delissa-
Ever get the feeling that Flamaest hates Altace???

Check it out here: Altace's generic name is ramipril.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/202044.html

By the way, the most common, numero uno side effect is cough. Over a third of Altace users develop one.

I second Flamaest's motion to try Diovan or any of the ARBs (angiotensin 2 receptor blockers) They seem to have the least adverse reactions of all the BP meds, but of course everyone is different and I know people who tried Diovan and had side effects, and loved Altace instead.

Go figure!
