I have been taking toprol xl 100mg for about 3 weeks now. About a week ago I started feeling very faint and dizzy all the time especially in the morning. Has anyone else had this side effect? I've been checking my bp and pulse regularly and they are normal (110/68 and 66). Could toprol be the cause of this?

Hi Hilery-
Yes...this could definitely be a side effect of Toprol XL.
Toprol is a combo of the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide and the beta blocker metoprolol
Some of the most common side effects are indeed dizziness--especially upon changing position (e.g., sitting or standing from lying down);
Also,unusual headache...
fatigue
tingling or numbness in your arms, legs, hands, or feet;
feeling thirtsy
nausea or decreased appetite;
diarrhea, constipation, gas
muscle weakness or cramps;
depression
The faintness and dizziness is more likely to be the diuretic component of the pill....
Talk to your doctor and see if he/she will entertain an alternative for you. There are many other ways to go, and most of us have chopped and changed different classes and/or dosages of meds at first, until we came up with one that didn't make us feel lousy.
Call the doc!

Zuzu~ Thanks for the info. I'm definatly starting to think toprol isn't for me. Yesterday my bp was down to 98/60 and I keep feeling more and more dizzy. My doctor said to try cutting it down to 50mg. Maybe that will help. Thanks again!
