Is it normal for your blood pressure to drop extremly low after sitting or lying down for awhile? I have been taking toprol for high blood pressure for a few weeks now. My dr started me out on 100mg and now I'm on 50mg. Anyway, I've been checking my bp several times throughout the day and sometimes if I've been sitting or lying down for awhile my bp gets as low as 88/60. (It's usually this low first thing in the morning) Yet, if I'm up doing something and then sit down to take it, it's usually around 120/75. Is this normal? I've also been having a weird feeling in my chest many times throughout the day and it seems to get worse when I lay down and start to fall asleep at night.

hilery,

Your doctor is trying to titrate a dosage for you that is right. It seems that perhaps the 50 might be a little too much control.
Tell him about it and he might well drop you to 25 mg.

BP is normally lowered, sometimes considerably, when sitting comfortably for a long time while enjoying a good book, TV program, or stroking a pet in one's lap.
