View Full Version : Night Waking

DS has been the BEST sleeper since he came home. At 3 months he started sleeping midnight to 6 AM and by 5 months he was sleeping 9PM-7AM, sometimes a little bit longer.
He's 6 1/2 months old now. We started giving him veggies about 2 weeks ago and that is NOT going well at all. We've given him:
Carrots, Squash, Sweet Potatoes, Avacado, and Green Beans (all organic)
He's reacted to everything except the squash. He has gotten a rash, had worsened reflux, vomiting, and mucousy diarrhea.
Well, he's also started waking, every night, at midnight for about the last 5 days. He doesn't seem frightened, like it's a nightmare or anything. He's usually arching his back a little bit and just seems uncomfortable. He's also extremely fussy and irritable during the day, mostly due to the lack of sleep. My question is, is it possible that it's related to what we've been feeding him, as he's clearly having other reactions as well? It's pretty well in time w/ the introduction of veggies. I'm calling his dr Wed to get him in for allergy testing and, hopefully, a reflux med change. Should I just go back to only formula until then, as he was FINE on that? I just don't know what to do w/ this poor kid. He LOVES eating veggies, but I don't want to give them to him if they're going to mess with his sleep. (The only thing he gets is squash anyway.)

Maybe he's having an allergic reaction to the squash, or it just gives him A LOT of gas that is making him wake up in pain? Maybe try stopping the squash?

Well, today's the first day that that's all he's had. We've given everything 3 days to show a reaction. Squash was the only thing that he didn't show a reaction in 3 days. Everything else has been by the third feeding. So, we'll see how tonight goes after over 24 hours of nothing but formula and squash. If he still wakes, I'll take the squash away too and go back to just formula and see what happens. Thanks for the response.

have you tried switching brands, making your own, and/or not using organic foods? i have a friend whose kids can NOT eat organic foods.... we have NO idea why, but something about them caused weird reactions. it is really strange, as non-organic foods are supposed to be the unhealthy ones (i fed my kids all non-organic and they're perfectly healthy happy kids and never had any reactions at all), but something in how they were made..... anyway, just a thought. i'm not in town and don't have regular computer access, so if you already covered all this, sorry! :)

A quick update:
I fed him nothing but squash (which we know is safe) and formula yesterday and, low and behold, he slept the night through. So, apparantly his night wakings are, in fact, a reaction to what he was eating. I can only link it to the green beans, which caused a number of other problems as well. So, we've ditched everything but squash for now and, well there's a call being made to his doc Wed. I'd like to get him in sooner, but DH is deploying again soon and there's just no time before Wed. That sounds awful, but it's the truth. :(
I'm sure I'll have more questions soon enough, thanks everyone. :D
