My husband has just been diagnosed with Sick Sinus Syndrome. It started over a year ago, when he had bronchitis, he would cough and pass out. It didn't happen often, and he wouldn't be out long. Just recently he had bronchitis again and while coughing passed out, fell and broke 2 ribs. His doctor last year told him he had cough syncope and that there was nothing he could do for that.
He developed pnomonia and was put in the hospital due to his broken ribs and the pain from the coughing. Also his fainting spells have progressed into seizure like symtoms. His fists tighten right up and his arms move around, his eyes roll around in his head and he turns beat red. He is only out for about 10-15 seconds, but is very tired and confused when he wakes up.
His doctor diagnosed him with "SSS" and has put him on Midodrine 3 times a day. He came home from the hospital yesterday and went almost 2 days with no "episodes." Today he has had 3 of them. They are scary and this is very frustrating for us and our kids.
I was hoping there was someone out there who might have some information that would help. Our doctor mentioned a pace maker at some point in the future, but not now. My husband is 46.
Thank you for any help you might be able to give us.
