I am a 54 yo man experiencing bright red blood during bowel movements. It used to be a rare occurance, but now it is becoming regular. Today there were large amounts of bright red blood during 2 bowel movements. After that, when I thought I had to go again, I only passed gas and there was a large amount of blood in the toilet which:confused: is the first time this has ever happened. Any advice? I have contacted my Doctor today and already have a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy scheduled for this Tuesday morning.
Bright red blood just means you must have a lot of hemorrhoids that are opening and draining. Generally caused by constipation and straining but not always. Anyway it is good that you are getting scoped out to see what is higher up. It is the dark older blood that is a real concern. Good luck.

You are certainly doing the right thing by being checked out right away. We both know that lots of blood in the toilet is not a normal condition. Best of luck:angel:

Art,
While it could be an anal fissure or hemorrhoid, it can also be many other things. Glad you are getting it checked out and you should be fine until Tuesday! It could be a polyp, diverticulitis, etc. Lots of things that it could be can be fixed. So try not to worry too much until you can speak to the doctor after the test.
