This is my third thread, however they contain three different topics so it's easier this way. Exercising and Lupus. I did post on the Fibromyalgia board as well, but I'm wondering about this board too. I LOVE to exercise! It gives me for half an hour a sense of invincibility! I drink LOT of water before and after, I always drink water, HOWEVER about an hour after my work out, maybe even 1/2 hour after, my body aches. NOT from over exercising, it's a deep pain Fibromyalgia/Lupus pain. Unfortunate and sad. Any suggestions?? I guess for the 1/2 hour to 40 minutes of feeling invincible and on top of the world is worth more than the after effects.

Hi. What kind of exercises are you doing? Just curious. I put down my tennis racket 20 years ago, gave up my step bench 10 years ago, ETC. All of which annoys me no end, but I realized that, for me, high-impact & anything that stresses my joints is problematic. I now stick to yoga & Pilates, taking time off (days, even weeks) when I feel really low. Vee (but, hey, I'm ancient! :D)

I used to be quite an athlete, as I got older I did aerobics, lifted weights etc.. That became too much so now I walk, occassionaly do yoga and pilates. I used to be really competitive in sports and fitness, now I focus on acheiving my "personal best", instead of how I compare to others. I figure as long as I'm doing something, to the best of my personal ability (this means not pushing myself to exhaustion), I'm achieving something good and worthwhile. It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that I am "differently abled" than I was before.

Realisticchic,

I find it challenging when I'm told to exercise with Fibromyalgia to improve the pain, but also have the arthritic pain to contend with. I now consider walking, house work, yard work, and getting up off the couch on the weekends a good form of exercise.

I was very active when I was younger, even playing Rugby a few years back. People at work are always saying, "You're too young to go through this" and I just tell them, I couldn't wait to feel 80, so I didn't! Hope you keep moving!
