Hi, I'm sure you all are going to be a great help for me:) I have a 4yo with mixed spasticity quad. cp and am ready to put him in a bed. I have found a great bed from a special needs site/catalogue, but it is $5-6,000. I love it though. It's railings are on hinges so there are no places where he could get his hands, fee, toes, fingers, etc caught. I know about the bed railings that you can get to put on twin beds, but they are not safe enough. Just wondering if anyone else could give me a few ideas. A certain place has granted him a wish so I am trying to get it through them. Thanks in advance.

Hi there.. Hope all is well with you.
We had a bed issue a few years ago. Our son is 7 now & at the time we didn't even know about the bed frames that had the hinges & all that. So, what we did, was we bought a twin size sleigh bed for him. It has wood on both the head & foot boards, so it made for a great stabilizer. Then, so he could see out, we made a frame which we attached to the head & foot boards, that had plexiglass in the center. The bed was big enough that he couldn't get to the edges near the glass, but he could see out. Also as an extra precaution we put bumper pads along the edge, to ensure he couldn't get down in between the bed & the frame we'd built. As he's gotten older, we've removed the plexiglass & lowered the board a little, as he's due to have a surgery & will be casted. (We're thinking of easier transport in & out of bed, so thought it'd be a good idea to lower it). Anyway, we loved the idea that we had & it worked out really well for us.
Hope this makes sense & hope you find something that works for you.. Best of luck & God bless. :)
