I'm 10 days post surgery, with an akin/austin bunionectomy, on my left foot. It hurts alot and I only gain relief if I ice and elevate. How long before you started to have days of being pain free? I'm probably heel walking/hobbling too soon.

I don't think you should still be in a lot of pain. My Dr. told me to use the discomfort as a sign that you're doing too much. In otherwise to move around only as tolerated. I'm at 6 days post op and have discomfort but not pain in my feet. They feel swollen and prickly when I leave them down or am up too much. I'm mostly just using ibuprophen now, 800 mg. What's your Dr. say?

My doctor has told me the same thing....I was on it too much, just post op. The past few days, I've primarily iced and elevated the foot and if I do get up, I use this walker with inline wheels and a seat, to prop up my left knee, as I coast about the house. It used to be my grandfather's, and here I am... I'm a rnnner, so, it's taking alot of patience on my part. I also have a prickly sensation in my bruised and swollen toes, even though he only worked around my big toe. Underneath the soft cast, that he put on 3 days ago (I think in part to keep me still) it looks like the swelling is subsiding. The pain is gone; I'm staying off of my foot. I do heel walk a little, but my doctor said the success of early healing is via ice and elevation and very little weight bearing. Thanks for responding. Do you put any weight on your foot yet?

Hi. My first time to write on this board. I had bunion surgery and a hammer toe fixed last Thursday. This afternoon i see the doc for the first time since surgery. I was supposed to remain non weight bearing on this foot for 4 weeks. I've already been putting weight on it when I walk around with crutches. I am having my thumb joint fixed also in February. It is so sore that it makes it impossible to carry all of my weight on the crutches. Plus, I've had hip replacements, so my left leg doesn't feel all that strong to bear all of my weight. I hope he doesn't get too mad at me for putting some weight on it. Mostly, heel weight. I tried to get him to cast it, but he wouldn't. It really doesn't hurt all that bad at all.
