Seems like all the meds Im on right now just stopped working. The acid is sitting in my throat and I keep getting the coughing tickle fit all day. It even feels like whole food is coming up my throat. I am on the max dose of ppi right now and I took some malox. But still no relief now what do I do??? My ent is going to refer me for a endoscope but I will have to wait for that to be approved. Hoping that will give me some answers to why I have this so bad.

I seem to be right where you are right now. No meds are helping! I was told Nexium was the best but notice they switch me around a lot. I do think they stop working after sometime for a lot of people then there are others that I know have taken them for years and years with no problems.

Yes I was told Nexium is the best for whats ailing me to. I was just looking over a list of foods not to eat and I think I ate everything on it the past few days. Unfortuntley anything good you cannot eat lol. Maybe thats why Im so bad off right now. I cant sleep right now because the acid is just hanging around in my throat. I think Im going to go and drink some more malox and hope that helps. Heres a list of foods I enjoy and had to much of in the last few days which ended me up here suffering tonight.

Coffee- I am not giving up that one
Soda- another one I dont want to give up
Chocolate- I dont eat often anymore but had to have some today
Spagetti and sauce- I love it but I try not to eat it that much although I had my fair share tonight
Tea- Normally I dont have but had some tonight
peppermint- I just had one and I started choking and coughing
buffalo wings- Dont normally have but had yesterday
fries- dont normally eat but had yesterday
these are all items you should not eat if you have acid reflux and I guess I just had to much of it so here I am. I just dont know what I was thinking. I guess nexium cant protect you 100% from all foods.

Well have a goodnight Im going to get some malox and try to go to sleep.

LOL. You did it up right! I've been getting addicted to Starbucks and that's as bad as the cokes I'm addicted to. I don't eat fried foods but eat pizza with my daughter sometimes and it bothers me. The coffee is worse for me than coke. I eat a lot of WW meals and they seem to all have tomatoe sauce in them. I don't eat much chocolate anymore (as in cookies and candy) but the WW English Toffee ice cream bars have chocolate and I'm not giving that up. Come on and admit that we women will never give up our chocolate. I can eat most vegetables ok and sneak in a french frie or 2 occassionally but try to avoid fast food. Chili dog did me in on Sat. I don't think following every single rule will get you well. Better maybe but not well. Man can not live by bread alone. Oh! Bread bothers me. LOL.

I have a question...Do you experience any extra gas side affects from the Zegerid? I definitely think it works the best, but I had a really bubbly stomach which I think may have been from the added ingredients...what is it? Sodium bicarbonate?

NO, it works nicely....Just cannot take it an hour before food, because it tears my stomach up and makes me nauseous, so I take it right before i eat in the morning..

Hi Shan,

Did you have any breathing or LPR type of problems with your acid?

What is your diet like?

Thanks - and glad that you have found a medication that works well for you!

I have had GERD for 12 years and have been on many different meds, eventually one stops working well and you switch to another. SO far so good, but Im sure Zegerid will stop working too....what you gonna do.....The only meds I have not used is Nexium and Achiphex....
