View Full Version : Traumatic Macular Hemorrhage caused by a hard punch straight to the eye

Hi, I am a healthy 22 year old female and I got into a fight with 3 girls on New Year's Eve and got a good punch to the eye. Since then, I've had this black cloud in the center of my right eye. I went to the ER, they sent me to an ophtalmologist, and he told me that I had some dry blood in the center of my eye. When I asked him if I would get all my vision back, he said that the majority of the people he has treated did NOT get their full vision back! He then referred me to a retina specialist. I'm an independent student and I really don't have the $400 to just get a consultation from this specialist. Besides, I don't really trust doctors nowadays. They can make a big deal out of a minor thing just so that they get paid. So, I just wanted to know if I should worry about this or wait a couple of more weeks and see if it clears up. It's been a week already and nothing has changed. (Only now, sometimes I see some bright white lights blink a few times and disappear in my peripheral vision). Anybody with any kind of knowledge, advice, feedback or support will help me a lot. Thanks.

Well, I'm not sure how serious it really is. But I just wanted to know some stuff from people that this has happened to. Like how long it took for them to get their full vision back (for those who did).

You really need to see the specialist. When there is hemmorhaging in the back of the eye many patients need laser treatment to stop the bleeding. With alot of eye conditions involving the retina and macula, once the vision is lost it is lost. DO NOT WAIT! It is very important to get this looked at or you may lose your vision completely in that eye. This is a big deal. If the blow caused a hemmorhage it very well may have caused a retinal detachment. If you value your vision you will definately get it checked out.

Good luck.

Thank you very much for that info, I really appreciate it but right now I really don't have the means to see a specialist. Do you by any chance know a free or low-cost clinic in Southern California???
