Is it normal to continue to have hot flashes a year after period ends? I thought they'd have stopped by now. Thank you.

i'm almost 2 years without a period and i still get them. they're not quite the same, not as frequent and not the same intensity, more of a warmness like i just noticed the heating is on too high rather than a quick flash. and more from the neck upwards, rather than from the middle and spreading out. they did disappear altogether for a good while, but i've recently been having some again. i think this is just how it goes and is as normal as ..well ...anything that is normal during this time of our life. hope this helps.

I wish the hot flashes would disappear after a year...I remember my best friend would fan herself for a minute and indicate she was having a hot flash. Well, I wish that was all I experienced. It is like a bucket of water being thrown at me. My face and neck gets all red. My neck itches. I have sweat that runs down my face. It is just lovely. People looking at me have their eyes bulge when they see what I am going through. I can't hide it so I just simply say I am having a little hot flash. Ugh. I have to sleep on a towel at night because I sweat so much. I dont wear solid color shirts in case I start sweating. I do have to admit the last month it hasn't been too bad but I did go through an easier time about a year ago and then the sweats returned. I am in my third year. I won't take anything as I have heard it only delays the symptoms, my mom had breast cancer and I am not active enough to prevent blood clots so I just grunt how easy men have it and carry on.

Thank you for your replies. I'm glad to hear it's normal, but I sure wish it would end. Best wishes to you all and I hope everyone starts feeling better soon.

Glad to read this message. I have been menopausal for several years and occasionally get the "surge of heat." Just wondered if it was normal. I worry too much but, I find lots of comfort on this board.
