Ms. Help-

Well as of right now the best treatment for OCD is therapy in conjunction with medications, but I will say that if trying an organic approach gives you some relief, I would say go for it since we all respond differently to different techniques. There are many "natural" remedies for alot of ailments, and I would say that in some cases the relief one feels could be psychological, and on the other hand, there are many very well proven natural remedies on the market. If you do try this natural approach, let us know how it goes.:D

After someone mentioned inositol in treating OCD somewhere on this board, I decided to research the topic. About 1 gram of inositol is ingested daily in the average 2500 calorie diet. However, Mendel Fux, an Israeli researcher, found a significant improvement in patients' anxiety levels with 18g/day. Some food sources of inositol are stone ground wheat (11.5 mg inositol/g of wheat), fresh cantaloupe (3.55 mg inositol/g of fruit), grapefruit juice (3.80 mg/g of juice concentrate), and creamy peanut butter (3.04 mg/g). If you don't want to weigh out your food and juice everyday, try inositol as a supplement. Jarrow Formulas derives myo-inositol from rice and Mendel Fux prescribed myo-inositol to his study participants in 3 doses/day of 6 g/each dose.

You might find a nutritionist who specializes in increasing serotonin by your diet, which should help an OCD person. There is one in my area, but right now, I just can't afford one-on-one consultations with her. I have personally tried biofeedback, which helped a lot with my anxiety, but not necessarily with my OCD. Behavior therapy seems to be helping me the most and certain foods bring me relief i.e. dark chocolate, turkey, fish and yogurt.

My massage therapist said to do a liver cleanse for OCD, but I haven't tried it. By the way, light pressure massage, she said, also increases serotonin.

I have almost 100% cured my OCD naturally, here is how I did it, hopefully it works as well for others. I take 12 to 18 g of Inositol powder mixed with water once a day, exercise 4 times a week, take one st. john's wort capsule daily. It took about 6 - 10 weeks for me to notice the difference, but now I have no symptoms of OCD and I am now far from being depressed. Now, I would deffinitley suggest going to ask to doctor before starting st. john's wort, as it can interfere with many medications. I do want to point out that my OCD was never severe, as that still requires going to get help and maybe sronger medication.
