View Full Version : A natural antihistimine???

Hello,

I have been severely suffering from an allergic reaction to a cold virus. My doctor has confirmed that as odd as this sounds, people can have reactions to viruses, especially cold viruses.

I cannot take antihistimine products like Benedryl or sudafed because my body has an even worse reaction to the side effects those drugs produce.

My question is does anyone know of any alternative products/supplements/or natural histimine blockers? I just cant bear another minute of feeling like this. I have had a "lump in my throat" swollen sinuses, that hot and cold flushed feeling and dozens of hives ever since I got sick with whatever this virus is. The doctor said it might take up to 2 weeks to leave my body and I am suffering worse from the allergic reaction than I am to the virus.

I have already tried tons of emergen-C and advil with little to zero effect.

Please if anyone can offer any advice, I'd be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Jarlena

I've read that there are two natural allergy treatments - Quercetin and Stinging Nettle - that work pretty well. Unfortunately, my understanding is that it take 3-4 weeks to begin to see the benefits of taking them. Have you tried something like Claritin that is a newer antihistamine than benadryl and has fewer side effects?

Thanks for your reply. No I have not yet tried Claritin. After my bad experience with Benadryl (it caused me to become extremely nervous and fighting the feeling of unconsciousness at the same time)...I have not attempted to try similar drugs.

I do know about Quercitin, but didn't realize it took a few weeks to take effect. Have you ever tried Claritin, and if so, does it truly have fewer effects?

Thanks!

Benadryl makes me extremely sleepy, claritin doesn't bother me at all. Your experiences might be different, but mine are pretty typical, I think.

Thank you....perhaps I will try Claritin. It seems lot of people do much better with it.

Hi,
I am allergic to a lot of things and I use Luffa Cpmplex - it is a herbal thing for allergies. My mums friend recommended it, I didnt think it would be any good but it really helps. We also give it to our dog for her flea allergy and she isnt on any meds now. The vet said shes doing really well and just kep giving her what we're giving her. It tastes digusting but it is worth it! I'm not sure where you would get it from though - I think we get it from a pharmacy that also have a natural remedies section. Hope this helps!
