why does my nasal drip cause burning like heartburn

It probably IS heartburn. Acid reflux can be one of the underlying causes of nasal drip. If you have the two in combination the first thing you should do is work with a doctor to treat the acid reflux - in some cases treating the reflux will stop the nasal drip.

I went to the doctor because I thought I had heartburn but ant-acids had no effect. He said that was because it wasn't heartburn but nasal drip and to take decongestants. I did this for a month but no change, went back to docs and got antibiotics, still no change.
Think I will have to go back.

Typically, antacids are ineffective against acid reflux. You would need to take what are called Proton Pump Inhibitors (Nexium or Prilosec) for several weeks to really see any benefit. Prilosec is now available over-the-counter (but at a lower dose that when it was a prescription).

The connnection between acid reflux and post-nasal drip/sinus issues seems to be something relatively newly understood, but both my allergist and pulmonologist have told me that it's a contributing factor to a large number of the cases they see.
