i would definately take your baby to see another doctor, after all its better to be safe than sorry especially with a baby so young. doctors can easily make mistakes, my son had a very serious infection (which could have led to meningitis) when we took him to A&E the consultant simply sent us home with anithistamines which werent suitable for babies under a year anyway. Basically listen to your instincts, if you feel he isnt getting any better really push with your doctor, you know your baby best.
if you find that baby is having problems breathing and you really are worried call the nhs helpline, normally they will refer you to an out of hours doctor (i tend to find these are sooo much better than regular gps)
some things that can help,
run a shower or bath and keep the doors closed with baby in the room, steam helps to open out the airways,
try not to lay baby too flat, sometimes if they are a bit snotty this can trickle down the throat and make them cough,
vicks vapo rub on the soles of baby's feet,,,, now i have never tried this but have heard alot about it.

like i said tho,, go with your instincts,,, i really cant stress that enough, if i didnt go with mine when my son had that infection he could have got soooo much worse.

If you have pets in the house, your son could be allergic to it/them.

Our little 6-week old grandson had breathing problems (fast, labored breathing). They visited relatives for a couple weeks and he had no problem. When they returned home the same breathing problem returned. They figured out he was allergic to their cat. Got rid of the cat, tossed out chair the cat used, cleaned the house of cat hair/etc. then the baby was o.k. no more labored fast breathing.
