wondering if anyone has ever had this problem.... My 14 yr old daughter has had fatique and just doesn't feel good with minor headaches, since the day after christmas. She is very athletic and now can't even hold up to do any activities.
Had several lab tests and has been on doxycycline just in case she has a virus from a tick. (doc says sounds so much like mono) Mono, Lyme, thyroid,Sugar, are all negative.
Cat scan shows chronic sinusitis in the sphenoid sinus, but when we went to ENT. He said after looking at labs and films , just don't feel like that is significant enough to cause symptoms.
Now we are waiting on appt. with Neuro.
She crys and says Mommy something is wrong with me and I can't do anything to help her. Her family doc says she may have to homebound schooling until we find out whats wrong or until she gets better.
SO FRUSTRATED.... she is a straight a student and one of the top players on the varsity basketball team. Just wondering if anyone has had or heard of having these symptoms.

Sometimes mono is not completely diagnosed until it hangs around for a while. The antibodies may not become detectable until the second or third weeks of the illness. It looks like you got her to the Doctor early and since they have now a baseline of blood work maybe you could ask them to follow up with another blood panel, that could show more.

My second son had both strains of mono within 6 weeks...however, it didn't show up on the blood work until they did specialized testing. IT took an infectious disease doctor doing the test to find the double strain of mono that sent him to bed as a junior in high school. Tell them to run the test again. Go to an infectious disease doctor. She is sick and they can find the answer. I felt horrid that my son suffered for about 6 weeks with this before we got the right doctor to run a specilized blood panel to find both strains of mono.
What he told us is that sometimes mono doesn't show up for awhile and you can have it and feel awful before it bothers to show up in the panel. Keep pushing.....

I am so sorry your daughter is suffering.
Right now it seems there are many "mystery" illnesses out there. Almost all of my friends and friends children have since last summer been hit with one type of strange virus or another. I do know for a fact that there is a weird flu going around that causes extreme fatigue, sore throat and transient headaches...as well as achiness, irritability, and a general feeling of "unwellness" which seems to last on and on. I had it as well as many of my family members. So it could be something like that, if all other major illnesses are ruled out. That being said, please continue to investigate other causes, like Mono and Lyme (which is a common and very serious illness if left untreated).
In the meantime, there are many things you can do to help boost her immune system and make her more comfortable. Emergen-c vitamin C packets are wonderful immune boosters as well as elderberry extract (in the form of Sambucol at most health food/Vitamin stores). There are so many more. If you would like more information, please let me know. I myself have Lyme disease have spent the better part of the last 10 years investigating the effectiveness of natural cures and vitamins to increase health and wellness.
Until then, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughter.
Hang in there.
