I have spent the last 2 months having night sweats almost every night and it's driving me nuts.
I am 44 and have my womb and part of one ovary left after surgery. I've seen the doc who agrees I am peri-menopausal and prescribed HRT.
So far this hasn't made much difference but as I also have Multiple Sclerosis I am no doubt being more impatient than most people as I need to sleep well to cope with all the other stuff!
Before I started HRT bloods were taken and they all came back normal! FSH was 6. Now I am really confused as a lot of people say that the tests don't tell the whole story!
Any ideas, advice, greatly appreciated.

Hi muddie555,
How long have you been taking the HRT? It does take a bit of time for it to start working, with me it was a couple weeks if I recall right. But they might also need to up the dosage for you. The night sweats are awful, they are hard to sleep through and I feel exhausted the next day. You are not alone and it will get better. Keep talking to your Dr. if need be.
Julie;)

hello. to be honest, i don't think the bloods are very accurate as an indicator. it depends on what your hormones are doing at the time you have the blood test, and as we all know, at this stage of life hormones can vary from hour to hour, let alone day to day. so you can have a false 'normal' reading, and a false 'menopause' reading. i would imagine, that as you only have part of one ovary left, it's producing very little hormone. as i c hot says, keep talking to your doctor and don't let them fob you off, particularly in view of your other health problems. you have enough to contend with and if something can be done to help alleviate the night sweats and sleeplessness, so much the better. have you thought about some natural solutions? if you do a bit of research, you'll find out which supplements work best for whatever symptom you're suffering from. none of it is a quick fix, but for some ladies they really do work. maybe worth a try. good luck.

Thanks for the replies.
I've been taking the HRT since 21st December, so not that long.
I take a bucketful of supplements as it is for MS and I notice some of them are also indicated for menopause. I will look further in to any others I should be considering and check dosage rates too.
Due to see the doc next week so I will see what else they have to say! Meanwhile I'm very glad to live in a modern age with easy care fabrics, washing machines and tumble driers!:)
