View Full Version : Possible Tesosterone imbalance in 5 year old

We are very concerned over the behaviour of our 5 year old. He has always been very boisterous and energic and affectionate, however, he is prone to aggressive outburts, in particular kicking (especially of his teachers at school).

While he was still at nursery, it was partly put it down to being unable to properly express himself - he also diplays his affection in a very physical way. However, he only escaped being expelled from nursery by the skin of his teeth and unfortunately now at school the outbursts have not improved and we are desperately worried he will be expelled. The head master has said his behaviour is very unlike anything he has seen in a child so young and is more akin to a teenager in a 'difficult' family life - Something he is definately not! He comes from a very loving happy home and we have no problems with his older sibling. He was assesed by a specialist who thought he was fine, however, as she thought he is bright he demanded lots of attention and tended to cause most trouble when in change over periods or when he was bored! He is far better on a one-to one situation that a group. She was pretty certain he does not have ADD or ADHD - he is very able to concentrate and although he has lots of energy, is certainly not hyperative.

We have noticed that he is very hairy pretty much all over, but especially on his back, legs and even genetils - and from this and his very Alpha Male behaviour, I am wondering if possibly he may have a tesosterone imbalance? Has anyone got a similiar experience or be able to comment. I would very much appreciate any views.

Have you discussed this with his pediatrician? I would start there, you may be referred to an endocrinoligist.
