I was just prescribed Hydrochlorot 25 MG once a day for high blood pressure (165/100). Yesterday was my first time to take the med. I woke up this morning with my fingers swollen and I was real agitated. Are these reactons to the med? What are the side effects of this med?
Thank you,

Best thing to do, is go to either yahoo or google and type in the name of the med. It will usually give U a few places where you can read up on most all meds. and their side effects. I use them all the time. Good luck, and I hope it isn't the meds. but if so, tell the dr. so they can try U on something else. :) JJ

Heidi,
The thiazide diuretics are supposed to LESSEN swelling in the fingers rather than cause it.
The main POSSIBLE danger is an allergic reaction:
• Do not take hydrochlorothiazide without first talking to your doctor if you have an allergy to sulfa-based drugs such as sulfa antibiotics. You may have an allergic reaction to hydrochlorothiazide.
• Before taking hydrochlorothiazide, tell your doctor if you have
· diabetes,
· gout,
· a collagen vascular disease such as systemic lupus erythematosus,
· pancreatitis,
· kidney disease,
· liver disease, or
· high levels of cholesterol or triglycerides (types of fat) in your blood.
• You may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during therapy if you have any of the conditions listed above.
