Anklerose- There are many causes of paresthesia and/or numbness ...It depends on how it manifests itself and where it is on the body etc.....Causes can range from simple inflammation to connective tissue disease....Metabolic disorders, malignancy, central nervous system disorders, toxins, hereditary conditions, infection, malnutrition,( e.g. B-12 deficiency), entrapment neuropathy. All this jargon may or may not mean anything to you......Would love to be more specific but need more info from you.
Exactly what is worrying you?

We can't help you if we don't know what you are experiencing.
What are your symptoms or sensations? Perhaps if you give us more detail, we can help more, and even reassure you.

my left side feels like it's waking up from sleep. i can't feel hot or cold and my hand and feet are always cold. my right side is my weak side. i sometimes walk with a cane and sometimes not. my blood pressure is flucating up and down. top is anywhere from 150 down 2 125. lower numbers are anywhere from the 60's up to 90's. i'm on norvasc 5mg a day. will these symptoms get any better or not? have had cat scan, mri's of the head, neck, shoulders. plenty of blood work and xrays. all is coming back normal. any suggestions? will this improve over time?

Did any of the doctors think you had a stroke? It's odd that you have symptoms on both sides of your body though. A stroke usually affects only one side.
What have the doctors ruled OUT about what might have happened?
Were you exposed to any toxins or poison of some kind?
Did these symptoms happen suddenly or over time? Are you healthy otherwise?
Sorry to ask so many questions but given that you have had many tests I presume your physicians are telling you SOMETHING, no? And they also must have eliminated other things.
You say you had MRIs....did they also do an MRI of the SPINE?
If it was a stroke, with intensive physical therapy, often one can regain strength again re: the weakness. Often the tingling (paresthesia) and sensory/temperature deficits will improve over time, depending on the extent of neurological damage.
How is your BP now with the Norvasc?

doctors said nothing about a stoke. they say it's a mystery to them because of the symptons on both side. yes, we know a stroke affects only one side. was not exposed to any toxins or poisons. symptons happened suddenly. the only things doctor is ruling out is cancer and tumor. they did an upper back mri. i hope this answers some of your questions. thank you for responding also zuru........

Anklerose- This is indeed puzzling. You must be so frustrated (as are your doctors I'm sure). The reason I asked about an MRI of the spine is that there's a disorder called Syringomyelia in which a fluid-filled sac (cyst) forms in the spinal cord. This cyst, called a syrinx, grows over time, damaging the spinal cord.
Some of the symptoms can be a decreased sense of pain and temperature in the arms, hands, shoulders and upper trunk...
Weakness and wasting of the upper arm muscles.... Weakness of the legs ...
Difficulty walking
Pain in the neck and arms
Treatment of syringomyelia depends on the underlying cause and may include surgery. If the cyst is small and causes no signs or symptoms, a doctor may recommend observation with no treatment.
An MRI of the spine will usually find these growths but if yours was clear, then I guess that's not it. However, you say they imaged the upper back only...I wonder if you should ask your doctors if this was enough to rule out syringomyelia...
You've got me stumped... I'm sure they'll find an answer for you but unfortunately this often takes time. It sounds like they are being very thorough and trying to leave no stone unturned. Please keep us updated if you can, and if you have any questions at all, we're here. I only wish I had THE answer for you.
Good luck!
