I was on it years ago, but it made me too sleepy to function, so I'm going to try it again, but taking the dose in the evening. What I want to know about is whether i can mix alcohol with that or not. And likewise sleepaids. I take ambien sometimes to help me sleep and to calm my anxiety before going to bed (I have a phobia of sleeping. I blame the original showing of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. :) ) I was wondering about the side effects of mixing those things. I don't want to have to quit taking them, so if the effects aren't too bad, I'll deal with it sometimes. On the otherhand if it will rot my brain and cause organ failure or something else terrible, I will, with a glad heart, put the bottle down. Ya, know?

Any sort of hearsay and anecdotal evidence that can be provided would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I have been on Paxil for 5 yrs now. I am not sure about the sleep aids, I am sure you could ask a pharmacist. I often times call Walgreens and the pharm is always more than willing to answer my questions.

I think with the alcohol, drinking it on Paxil, in my experience, has just increased the sleepiness side effect. Over the holidays though, I did drink quite a bit and I seemed to handle it fine, so who knows.

I dont know if this has helped you at all. You could try to research it on the net and see what you come up with.

This is just me - but I took Paxil for 2 yrs. While taking the Paxil, I drank, not a lot or everyday, and also took amb**n for sleep. Never had any problems and the Paxil did help my anxiety.

Thanks so much for your responses. I think I will ask a pharmasist just to be sure with the sleeping pill, but I won't worry too much about the alcohol, though I will be careful.

I think drinking when on any SSRI's increases your hangover- 10 fold:(

Thanks for the info. I'll certainly keep that in mind. I started my pills two days ago and I had a sip of beer last night, shortly after taking the pill, and I felt like I drank 1/2 a beer. I guess it makes me a cheep date, anyhow. :)
