I have been off my DMD's for about a week now. I am off them so that I can start up in a different clinical trial. I have been having some very disturbing thoughts lately. I have felt like I wanted to hurt one of my dogs. I am an animal lover and I found that very unsettling. Then at dinner last night I had a thought/urge to hit my girlfriend.

Please, this is so out of character for me! Have any of you stopped your med's and had any issues of this nature? Feels like I'm really losing it, and it is very disturbing.

Gee Mitch .. i wdo not even know what a DMD is, but i do know about withdrawals .. in the last seven years i have had no choice but to switch out certain meds, opiates, for others for one reason or another,,, yea, you can get awfully grumpy and irritable .. if i may suggest , tell your docs , they do need to know, and you will then get your answer , is this just normal MS behavior or withdrawals, and what you can do to get your emotions under control, as MS does affect your emotional state as well .. just a suggestion .. good luck there .. peace

I also, don't know what DMD is but I agree with Cyprian1 that you should tell your doctors, thye might put you on something else to help with the withdrawl.
I am so sorry you have these thoughts, and have to deal with, my thoughts are with you, all the best.
Happy thoughts!

DMDs stand for the "disease modifying drugs" for MS. When someone uses that term they're referencing Copaxone, Rebif, Avonex, Betaseron or Tysabri.

Mitch, please, please, call your doctor and tell him/her that you're feeling aggressive. Maybe they'll prescribe a relaxant to take the edge off. I'm glad you're aware of what's going on though -- that's a positive thing!

Hang in there, stay calm and aware and please keep us posted.

If your DMD was for a clinical trial, call them imediately... this would be a side effect that they would need to be made aware of, as dependancy has to be noted in the clinical trials too. Hope this helps and good luck, the doctors should be able to give you something to help with the side effects. This is one reason I don't do clinical trials. While I understand their importance, I don't want to be a guinea pig for anybody.
