I have just been prescribed 12.5 to take daily in capsules. Is it ok to open the capsule and take in applesauce or pudding, as I don't swallow pills of any kind. Thanks for answering. Sherry

I'm not sure if this is okay....you should definitely check with your doctor first.
However, I do know that there is an oral liquid solution version of hydrochlorothiazide that comes with a dropper, which I believe is good for people who have trouble taking pills.
Again, make a phonecall to your doc and ask about this possibility.

PhilaGirl,
I'm sure it's fine if you don't get an objectionable taste.
You DO realize I hope that you are overpaying by a factor over TENFOLD for the capsule version.
Example:
Generic capsule 12.5 mg.....$13.99/30 caps or $46.49/ 100
Generic tablet 25 mg (splitable)...$8.99/100 or $4.50/100 split in half.
(prices from best American on-line discounter (IMHO))
(I'd chew one for you to see if they taste much (they're tiny) but since it's before breakfast I don't want to risk a horribly bitter aftertaste.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I did find out I could take the Hydrochlorot by opening the capsule and I mix it in food, just as I do my monopril. I have a 1-5$ copay for all my RX's so I'm lucky. Sherry
