I don't have much advice but I wanted to let you know that I am having a similar experience.
I haven't had my period in SO long (3 years?) and I started taking Metformin/Glucophage in August (so about 6 months) and haven't noticed any changes (still no period). I saw my endocrinologist in December and told him about this, he basically didn't have any advice except to keep taking the Glucophage because supposedly that'll help keep things in good shape. I went to a new gynocologist who basically said periods aren't necessary UNLESS the lining is built up to the point it needs to shed. (I don't have a thick lining so I'm just letting it go, but I do have it checked through ultrasound at least once a year). If you need to have your period then you'll probably have to take Provera.
Make sure you keep seeing doctors - endo and gyno - to try to solve this.

I agree with innerstrength. Provera will bring your period on, but lots of PCOS women do not get their period. And some people need more Met than others. I am on 1500 a day but have taken that amount for almost 3 years. My period did regulate on Met and DD was born in March and now, TTC #2, i have to take provera each month to bring on my period. I also know that your body has to build up the met in it to work and I agree with innerstrength's doc that keep taking it - its important even if you are not gettting a period.
