Hi,

My Grandmother who is 86 and has Heart Disease and Angina hasn't been taking one of her heart medications for the last 4 weeks. I only found out last night when I was checking what medications she was running out of so I could order a repeat prescription.

She is taking Isosorbide Monitrate and Dilitiazem for her heart. Dilitiazem she has not taken in 3-4 weeks. I usually sort her medication out but I've been ill with Bronchitis so my Mum took over but somehow forgot to give Gran the Dilitiazem tablets.

I would appreciate any advice as I don't know whether this could do any harm to Gran.

She has been experiencing chest pain for a few weeks (now I know why) and GP gave her two courses or Amoxicillin because she thought Gran had a chest infection due to her wheezing and coughing. Can missing this pill cause her to cough a lot?

Thank you

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm wondering if until you get in touch with her Doctor you could call a pharmacist to ask if not taking the pills can cause that and if she should start taking it again? Anytime I have a question about meds I'll call a local Walgreens or Target pharmacy and speak with the pharmacist. They've always been a great help.

You should give her Doctor a call though because he will know the specifics with her and will guide you better.

Thankyou for your reply. Its UK here and everywhere is closed. I did start Gran back on her Dilitiazem last night as soon as I found out she hasn't been taking it. I'm just worried that not taking this pill for 3 or 4 weeks could effect her heart or cause a problem that would put her in A&E.

Spoke to Pharmacist who said there's nothing to worry about and to take her pills as normal.
