Has anyone noticed they have urinary problems with peri? I've had so many UTI's in the last 6 months. But even when they clear, I still feel urgency. It's like my bladder is ultra sensitive and I haven't felt normal in months. It's like everything "down there" feels weak. Can anyone relate to this because it's really interfering with my life now. The other day I said I would rather have hot flashes than have to deal with this bladder weakness stuff.

I had to laugh that you would rather deal with the hot flashes instead of a weak bladder, well I have both. LOL. The hot flashes are not alot of fun but it is true the bladder gets annoying. Everywhere I go I can tell you where the bathroom is. Sorry you have this issue. Take care, Julie;)

Laye,

You could be low on estrogen. You may want to have your estrogen levels checked. I am post menopausal and was suffering from the same. Doc said low on estrogen...may take up to 6 months to correct...and he was right i'm on my 5th month of estrogen now and feeling better. D-mannose also helped me through it. It took an emergency room visit, internal med doc, 24 med service, gen practioner, urologist and finally obgyn to figure it out. Whew! Expensive.

Good luck and take care

I had this one when I was about 1 year post meno. It went on for about 3 months and drove me crazy. Like you, I thought that it was an infection that didn't clear up.

Fortunately, this feeling did pass and now I have it only once in awhile and it only lasts for a day or so.

It does clear up.

At the time, I gave up all citrus fruit, caffine, and chocoate. You know, all those things that can irritate the bladder. I don't know if that cleared it or what.

I now eat citrus but when the feeling comes again, I get off of it for several days.

I hope this helps.

Thanks ladies! I think it does have to do with my hormones. How could you tell that the D-mannose helped? And it stinks cuz I love chocoloate!!

From the pubmed journals and searches, they show that when you are low on estrogen bacteria attaches itself to the walls of the bladder easily. D-mannose wraps itself around bacteria so that it can't attach to the bladder and cause infection! Yippee ;) So, it helped to stave off infections while building my estrogen level back up.

I have added chocolate back to my diet...but totally anything with caffiene. The misery helped me to break the cola habit...which I didn't think I could ever do. ha :D

I am so much better...I will never go without estrogen again. Never thought I would say that with my mother having breast cancer. Nevertheless, she had a hysterectomy in her 30's and refused to take ert and still came up with breast cancer.

Laye, let us know how your doing.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you use to build your estrogen back up? Was it a topical? Or HRT? Or the pill? My doc wants to put me on the pill but I'm leery of all the side effects. I need estrogen. I just am unsure on how to get it. I'm not fully menopausal. Just in peri right now.
