I just had a few weeks of really bad depression. I could feel it deepen day by day, until Sunday, I thought I'd lose it and have to call for help. I could not stand it one more minute.
Then I began to go up. It was like a lifting of that awful depression, and the next day, I was fine.
The periods of hypomania, too, will build until I am in a frenzy, then reverse into depression.
Just wondering if others have these sudden swings. I can almost predict when a mood period will end from how intense it is getting.
Thanks, and best to everyone here.

I think I know what you mean. My last bout of hypomania got pretty severe, I think it was as "up" as I have ever gone by the time it was over and I came into this mixed state. The last depression I was in was horrible, and I am surprised my husband did not check me in to the hospital before it was over. It seems like there is no middle ground. Or if this mixed state is the middle ground, I just don't know.
How are you feeling now? I hope better.:)

Yes I have the same problem that is why my psyc Doc has me on lamitical. BUT in the winter it's the worst still depressed wish i would change over.
Maybe you need to talk to Doc about a mood stabilizer, BUT as you prob know they don't always work or they need to be adjusted
I'm heading to Doc today to ask about something to help with the Depression part.
Hang in there

Seaturtle,
You seem to be very in touch with yourself. I always feel this way, very "in tune" to minor changes. I'm not sure what that is, being "perceptive"......I guess??? Were you on meds at the time you wrote this post? .....just curious : ) I hope you are feeling well and with less "high's and low's".
Luvya,

Hi, luckygem,
Yes, by now, I know myself and the patterns pretty well. I was, and am on meds: Lamictal 225, Luvox 100, Wellbutrin 75. Xanax prn and Ativan for sleep.
So many meds.
I cycle but notice that an event in my life (usually several at once) can throw me into the depressive cycle, too. I will see pdoc this Friday and see what she says. I did try to lower the Wellbutrin, but can't deal with the resulting depression.
Nice to hear from you, thank you for posting to me.

Hi Seaturtle,
I am an ultra rapid cycler so I can have an up and a down in the same day. I know exactly what you mean, I see it so clearly if I have a high high then in the next few hours or even days I will have a really low low. My mania and depression mirror each other almost exactly in intensity.
Do you mood chart? I find it helpful, you can use microsoft excel to plug in info and it will give you color coded graphs so you can really see the patterns. Granted, you do have to be a little tech savy, I dunno...are you good at those sorts of things? If not, paper and pen works fine.
If you don't mind me asking, do your cycles change with the seasons? If they do you could go see your pdoc before winter or whatever season you tend to become depressed/manic to preempt the moods.
Let us know how your appointment went,
Best wishes to you now and always,

Hiya, steamroll,
I have been keeping a kind of log - not exact - but your idea of really charting is a good one, and I will do that.
You must feel like a ping-pong ball at times. I used to go up and down all day like that, but Lamictal has helped a lot with that.
Seasons, well, the winter months are most difficult for extended depressions, though, oddly, I find that my depressions are worst on the most beautiful days. Pdoc is somewhat aware of this, but has never upped the meds in anticipation of it. Another good idea, thank you.
And how are you doing? Thinking of you,
Seaturtle
