My neuroligist prescribed Propranolol to prevent my migrains and I started in this am and less then 2 hrs later I got a huge headache, one of the worst! Any one know if it could be from the med? I dont know wether to keep taking it...the side effect of headache does not appear on the possiable side effects page at Walgreens.com
Just curious!
Thanx.

Propanolol does not have the side effect of headache which you already discovered. I would look for some other trigger to your headache you had such as something you ate or drank at the time you took the medication or shortly before or after taking the med. Continue taking the medication and hopefully it will work wonders for you. It works well for my husband.

I took the same thing for 6 months for my migraines, it worked wonderfly after a few weeks. However I developed horrible nightmares and discontinued using the medication.
It never caused a migraine for me! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif Good Luck

This medicine did nothing for me. It caused my feet and hands to get cold and sweel and was uncomfortable. Give it a couple weeks and if you are still having headaches let your dr know. Some preventatives will make the ha more frequent or more severe in pain. good luck.

Hello,
I was put on Propranolol by my doctor about a year ago to prevent migraine attacks. I got terrible nigtmares just like someone posted here that they got with this medication. I went back to my doctor and was told this can happen and to stay on the medication and they should go away. After about 2 more weeks of being on the medication the nightmares went away.
I would get at least 2 migraine attacks a month. I noticed after a couple months on being on the medication that I was not getting the attacks anymore. I believe this medication worked for me in providing me relief from my migraines.
I still have my constant headache and you can read my post on this message board.
I hope you find something that works to relieve your pain.

Get off this stuff. Having been on it for nearly 21 years I can tell you from experience it does not work at all. I finally talked my current Dr into "weening" me off of it because I started having a severe "cold feet" condition that I couldn't relate to anything other than this drug. Off two weeks now and NO HEADACHES whatsoever! Now my Dr. is on a Tricor kick but I'm refusing to go on ANY medication until the foot problem disappears.
