disneygal03 01-17-2008, 07:44 PM negative testing by blood and swabs for herpes, antibodies positive, what does that mean? catharine101 01-17-2008, 10:18 PM It means we need more information. What kind of blood test was run?? Was it an IgG test or an IgM test. Do you have the results in front of you?? If so, post them. A swab can be negative even if you have herpes if there is no active virus in the lesion. If the lesion is over 48 hours old, the results are questionable. What antibodies did you test positive for?? The antibody test is a blood test, so you can't test positive for antibodies and have a negative blood test at the same time - unless they ran the wrong kind of test. You need an IgG type specific Herpes test - most common is HerpesSelect. Keep in mind that a blood test will only show positive after about 3 - 4 months post exposure. novembersea 01-21-2008, 05:10 PM My test said HSV1 >5.00 so that was positive, but my antibodies were high, and my HSV2 was only .15 which is way under the miniumun .90. I had not been active two months prior to the test, so now I myself do not know if this is accurate or if it's zoster. I had a rash one week before my test, which could be recurring zoster? or new infection? Still awaiting zoster, and I did have bells palsy last year and now this year a rash in my upper buttocks crack. |
