My 8 yr old started complaining about the area on the lower right of his stomach. I took him to the dr yesterday and the isolated it to the appendix area and explained what that meant. We did blood work it came out normal and we even did a ct which was normal. So here we are 36 hours later he still hurts but everything came back normal. Is this a watch and see or something else. Has anyone else had this happen.

My 8 year old had appendicitis last year. He woke up in the middle of the night doubled over in pain. It was very evident that it was much more than a stomach ache. We took him to the ER and they did blood work. His white count was high so they did a CT scan which revealed an inflamed appendix. He did have it removed. A couple months later some friends of ours also with an 8 year old son experienced almost the exact same thing, however, blood count was normal as well as CT scan. They were told it was viral and were sent home from the hospital. They were back the next day because he wasn't getting better and they were convinced their son had appendicitis. He spent half the day at the hospital and was sent home again. A day later his older sister had the same thing!
Too make a long story short, there are definitely viruses that mimic appendicitis. I would be pretty confident if the CT scan was clear, however, my son had it done twice. The image wasn't clear enough the first time, so they had him drink a big glass of some kind of juice that helps the scan come in clearer. They wanted to be absolutely sure before performing surgery on a child.:(
