Hello :)

I was floating around the internet and discovered this site and felt compelled to register.

My name is Andrea/Drea (you can call me either or). I was very recently diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder...and by recent I mean I got the official diagnosis this December. But I feel I've been dealing with this for a lot longer, since I was about 13. I'm 16 currently. I wasn't too surprised, honestly. My grandmother had a severe case of Bipolar Disorder. I would always wonder what was wrong with me and then I finally got answers. But it still feels a little new to me to actually have a name for what I've been going through. It's been rough, but I'm coping. And I know in cases with Bipolar Disorder there's "manic episodes" so I have a question.

Whenever I get ready to fall alseep, I hear voices. They don't frighten me or anything, but I'll just hear so many and they'll be overlapping in my mind, and it's strange. Is that associated with Bipolar Disorder? Sorry if I'm asking an obvious question. What I mean is this a "manic episode"? I never feel anxious or anything when I hear them and doesn't happen too often, but it concerns me a little. If anyone could answer this that'd be great. :D

I tend to ramble, you see. But I hope to be at least a little active here, I figured it'd be refreshing to be able to talk to people about this whole thing who've been through it first hand. And even though I'm only 16, I'm not your regular obnoxious teenager (at least not all the time, haha).

So greetings, y'all! :)

Hi Drea, I like your name! Well 1st off what med's are you on?
You need to go to the thread in the beggining of this board and read the symtoms.
But if you are hearing voices, are you sure your not just in bed and have racing thoughts? You know like I have to do this or that what about this ect?

Keep in touch

Aw, Thanks!

I'm on mood stabalizers, Tegratol to be exact. When I take them they usually just keep me from flying off the handle at people. And yes, sometimes I do have racing thoughts when I'm in bed, I knew that was associated with BP, just didn't think it was connected tot he voices. =// I've only been to a therapist twice (money is tight around here so it's kind of hard to go frequently), but I didn't think of telling her what I hear; the thought didn't cross my mind, which was real smart of me.

But when I hear 'em it's not just me thinking "I have to do this" they're all just voices of random people saying strange things, one of them even said their name. Sorry, I didn't think reading that sticky thread, I have now. My therapist/psych didn't mention anything about Bipolar I or II. :O

Thanks for the welcome! :D

Hi Drea: You really need to talk to the person who subscibed the med that your on. You probable know that hearing voices is not good. How long have you been on that Med. Maybe research on the web the side effects.

I have never had that happen to me , but sis had it happen becasue she was on Zoloft and one of those migrain medication.

Good luck
PS keep me informed on what your Doc said.

Welcome to the boards, Drea!!
I am a fellow bipolar teenager, I'm 17 and was dxed at 14. And like you I hear things. I only hear one voice though and I hear him all the time. But my med Abilify pretty much takes care of that. It lowers the volume and now I am able to ignore him. I dunno if it is associated with Bipolar, but I have it and I'm Bipolar
My manic periods involve jumping up and down, rapid speech, flight of ideas, euphoria, and generally being so happy that I don't even make sense. Do you ever have times like that? Everyone's mania is different, but you can ask your therapist when you see him/her again what the typical mania is.

Welcome again and lets us know how you are doing,

Hi,

Yes, talk to the doc - I know that Tegretol can cause visual hallucinations, don't know about hearing voices.
Have you ever been diagnosed with schizophrenia? And did you hear these voices before you started Tegretol?

I welcome you here and hope you can get an answer from your doctor soon.

Hi and welcome Drea! Nice to meet you. I am 24 and bipolar.

I agree with the others. I would let your pdoc (psychiatrist) know what is happening to you. It could just be severe racing thoughts like others have said. But, like steamrollhehe, I am on abilify and have seen things before (hallucinations) and it has taken care of that. So maybe you need to be on a med like that? Only your pdoc will know.

Take care and let us know how it goes. :)
